Volare on AgFunderNews: Why the World Needs New Protein Sources
AgFunderNews, a global publication covering innovation in agriculture and food production, spoke with our CEO Jarna Hyvönen about the growing demand for alternative protein sources and the role of insect-based ingredients in building more resilient feed supply chains.

As Jarna explained, the story goes beyond fishmeal prices. Fishmeal is a finite resource, while the industries that depend on it, especially aquaculture, keep growing. For our customers, securing a stable supply of high-quality protein is a growing priority, creating new opportunities for European protein production.
“For us, the key has always been to compete on cost and performance, not to depend on high fishmeal prices,” Jarna says.
This demand is already translating into commercial commitments. A significant share of Volare 01’s capacity has been sold, with offtake agreements in place with customers including Skretting. Looking ahead, we are exploring locations for our next production facility in Europe and beyond, with access to suitable food industry side streams playing a central role in our expansion strategy.
