Volare 01 on Aquafeed.com: Scaling Local Protein for European Feed Markets
Aquafeed.com, an international publication covering the aquaculture feed industry, featured the completion of Volare 01, our first industrial-scale insect protein production facility in Pori, Finland.
The article explores how years of product development and commercial partnerships have laid the foundation for industrial-scale production. Since 2022, Volare's insect-based ingredients have been used across a range of feed and pet food applications, including rainbow trout feed developed with Alltech Fennoaqua, insect-based dog treats with Alvar Pet, Dagsmark’s cat food and organic poultry feed.
With Volare 01, we are taking the next step from proven applications to large-scale production. A significant share of the factory’s capacity is already sold, including to global aquafeed leader Skretting.
“Europe needs significantly more locally produced protein, and we have built a model that can deliver it efficiently and competitively,” CEO Jarna Hyvönen says.
